In Bangladesh, nowadays bank customers often use debit and credit card in their daily activities. Moreover, the number of user is increasing day by day. Many times, cardholders face difficulties in generating PIN of their card on by their self. People often need help from call center to generate their card PIN. To make it easier and convenient for the cardholders and to paperless transactions, the concept of Green PIN was introduced. Green PIN was launched in Bangladesh for few years now.

Green PIN is an instant and secure card PIN generation process by cardholder himself through Contact Centre for all types of cards issued by Bank. It enables valued cardholder to generate, reset and change card PIN or Green PIN anytime from anywhere at their convenience.

This is a paperless Go Green & Save the Planet, initiative to live better.

How Green PIN Works

The main focus of Green PIN was to initiate paperless banking that will work in favor of both employees and customers of bank. With this facility, cardholders can generate their card's PIN via IVR, SMS, Internet Banking and ATM booth. This is considered as a great initiative towards saving paper and making the banking service environment friendly.

Benefits of Green PIN

Green PIN initiative has the following advantages-

  • Bank employees do not have to keep physical custody of the PIN as it is risky.
  • Cardholders do not need to visit the bank to get their card PIN.
  • Green PIN system will reduce carbon footprint of public and private banks in Bangladesh.
  • Bank customers can avoid delay of receiving their card PIN and can generate the PIN on the day they get their card.
  • Green PIN process is cost effective as the bank does not have to print the PIN in paper and does not need to send the PIN to customer by courier.

How Cardholder Can Generate Green PIN?

Bank cardholders can generate Green PIN via IVR, internet banking, ATM booth and from call center agent.

A. Generate Green PIN via IVR

  • Call the customer service number of bank.
  • Follow IVR instruction and select Green PIN from the list of options.
  • Then the cardholder needs to enter the card number and confirm it.
  • Also the cardholder might need to enter their bank account number too.
  • After that the cardholder will be directed to the Green PIN creation section and asked to enter new card PIN or Green PIN number twice.
  • In the end, the cardholder will receive a confirmation SMS from the bank about successful PIN generation.

Cardholders can also create their card PIN or Green PIN via SMS and Internet Banking systems if the bank has these options available.
